THE CORE GROUP
Alegria A. Javier-Obien is the founder of the HESL Ministries and principal facilitator of the seminal workshop, Healing the Eight Stages of Life (HESL). She is known as “Ate Baby” to listeners of her radio program, God Will Make a Way at Radio Veritas 846 kHz AM Philippines.
She authored the book A Path to Wholeness: Healing the Eight Stages of Life on which the HESL workshop is based. A former bank executive and entrepreneur, she chose a life dedicated to counseling and family ministry. She has a Professional Diploma and Apprenticeship in Pastoral Ministry from the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM), Ateneo de Manila University. She is a holder of an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling-Family Ministry at the Loyola School of Theology.
Presently, Mrs. Obien is a resource person and counselor at CEFAM and teaches at the De La Salle University, Ramon del Rosario Graduate School of Business. She still conducts credit training workshops in her capacity as a banker but is now concentrating more on bringing the message of psycho-spiritual healing, i.e., the HESL message, to various groups such as teachers and students, religious organizations, couples, parents and families.
She was widowed by Mr. Irineo R. Javier by whom she has seven children. She is presently married to Dr. Santiago R. Obien.
Fr. Juvenal “Ben” Moraleda, CSSR is the Spiritual Director of the HESL Ministries and a regular facilitator and speaker at the HESL workshops. Fr. Ben holds an M.A. in Spirituality from Fordham University and an M.A. in Theology from the Theological Seminary, NYC, USA. He also took Pastoral Studies Program in Counseling at the Blanton-Peale Institutes of Religion and Health, NYC, USA and at the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM), Ateneo de Manila University.
Presently, Fr. Ben counsels and teaches at CEFAM. He is also engaged in various ministries concerning justice and peace, among them, the Urban Missionaries-AMRSP, Task Force Detainees of the Philippines, and Families of Involuntary Disappearances. He is also active in various multi-sectoral and ecumenical involvements such as the Freedom from Debt Coalition, Ecumenical Forum for Church Response, and the Kaalagad Katipunang Kristyano.
Myrna Joyce Sanchez has been a regular facilitator and speaker at the HESL workshops since its inception. Myrna holds an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling – Family Ministries from the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM), Ateneo de Manila University and is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Philippines. She has experiences in college, university, and seminary teaching and extensive practice in family counseling.
At present, Myrna counsels at CEFAM, Ateneo de Manila University and holds private practice in the Partnership Center at Loyola Heights. She teaches at the De La Salle University, Ramon Del Rosario Graduate School of Business and at St. Scholatica’s College Graduate School of Psychology and Counseling. She also works with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) HR Department as an external psychologist. She is married to Reynaldo “Rey” Sanchez and a mother of three.
Fr. Arsenio “Arsie” Lumiqued, Jr. M.S.C. has been with the HESL core group since it started in February 2003. He has an M.A. in Sacred Theology from the Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo De Manila University, and a PH.D. in Educational Management from Angeles University, Angeles City. At present, Fr. Arcie is a senior faculty member and counselor at the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM), Ateneo De Manila University. He is also a faculty member of Maryhill School of Theoloy, New Manila, Quezon City, and the East Asian Pastoral Institute, Ateneo de Manila University where he is also a Spiritual Companion and Counselor.
Fr Arcie is also involved with the Marriage Encounter and Discovery Weekend as Team Priest. He has extensive experience in lecturing and conducting group counseling and family counseling.
Renato “Rene” P. Arcilla has been with HESL as a regular facilitator and speaker since it started. He is a businessman and a professional counselor. He has an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling-Family Ministry from the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM), Ateneo de Manila University. He holds private counseling sessions at his residence at Urdaneta Village, Makati.
Rene is also involved with the Family and Pastoral Counseling Association of the Philippines (FPCAP) of which he is co-founding Director and Treasurer. He is married to Agrifina “Pining” Arcilla, also a professional counselor, with whom he has five children.
Joji Racelis is a regular facilitator and speaker at the HESL workshops. She has a diploma in Pastoral Counseling and Apprenticeship from the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM), Ateneo de Manila University.
At present, Joji is a family counselor at CEFAM. She is also involved with Anamchara, a group of counselors that does family counseling and workshops for various organizations, Circle of Jung, and Mary the Shepherdess – a group that deals with emotional and sexual abuse. She also counsels at the Lorenzo Mission Institute (Seminary at San Carlos Compound) and is a facilitator and speaker at some Salesian schools. She is a mother of two.
